...how students use Bracken Library and what changes have been made to encourage students to visit. In particular, they look at how students are utilizing the library as a place of social interaction.
The thesis to this group's project was why students use the library. They had texts and pictures on their slides. Glenda started off the powerpoint and it was really good. She knew what she was talking about and her and the rest of the group talked loud and clear. They all knew the information well except one of the guys had a few quiet spots and another guy didn't know where the conference room was. Did not have quoets on the slides and they had their survey results up. IT was a good presentation.
1. Their thesis question was why do students use the library? 2. They did a great job with organization and they timed what each person said perfectly! 3. They built up their arguement by telling what everyone did when they go to the library- it's a good meeting place, students order food to the library, and do homework. 4. They did a great job with syntax and diction and everyone spoke really well and got their point across. 5. They used the Pecha Kucha format by doing a powerpoint slide of 20 slides at 20 seconds each and timed it just right. 6. The incorporated great statistics from their survey and factual information about the library.
This group did have very nice pictures on their slides. You were able to understand all the speakers loud and clear with an occasional trip up on a word or sentence. The information presented was well developed and based off of the group's interviews, observations and the survey. A speaker seemed to have trouble keeping up with the slides and was often still talking about the slide before when a new slide popped up. There were also some pauses during this time as well. Overall though the group presented very nicely. Their entire presentation had a nice flow to it and was comprehendable.
This groups thesis was "why do students use the Bracken Library." They started their presentation with some background info on the library. The speakers were very easy to understand and they presented the information well. The slide transitions went well with their dialogue. They showed some statistics on why people go to the library. The only problem i had with this presentation was that they spent most of it talking about the library and not why people go. There needed to be more information on the "why" aspect of it.
Thank you for your responses (this includes both the positive comments and those with a basis in constructive criticism).
We have all been recently reminded that the art of developing and delivering oral presentations, is one that involves much practice. Looking back on our presentation, I know that some members (including myself) ran a few seconds short of the time parameter while others, ran a few seconds over. My hope is that somehow, all was balenced out in the end.
Tess is right to emphasize the important of being able to speak in front of a class. It has been my experience that most departments on campus now require some type of an oral presentation component in many of their upper-level classes. I know this because, this is my last official class and semester as an undergraduate student.
I think that this was the best group that presented in class out of all the groups even mine. They were very clear on what they were trying to say and they had very good visual ads to help show what they were trying to say. they spoke very clearly and knew exactly who was suppose to speak at what time.
I agree with Cody and think this was my favorite group out of all the groups that presented. They have a very neat and organized slide show. They also got their spoken information out to the audience clearly. I loved all the additional information put in to this presentation to help us understand the library better. Their thesis asked why students visit the library and all the information they presented stuck to their point very well.
The group presentation was very good they discussed primarily how students use the library. They didn't talk to much about their actual field work, but the statistics were very informative. The presentation was very good, I could understand all of it and it was very easy to follow. They were very well prepared.
This group was focusing on the Bracken Library. Their powerpoint had good pictures. They talked about their findings as a group in their survey and in their observations, and interviews. However, one of the speakers had some trouble keeping up with the slides and was talking when the slide was on a different topic. I thought the group did a very nice job.
This group presented the question on why do people go to the library. This group seemed to be the most organized which was good to see. I found it especially interesting when Glenda spoke about how the librarian did not reveal her name, the things the librarian said were intriguing to say the least. The presentation began to slow down a bit in the middle a bit but overall it was easy to follow. They spoke about how the library is set up to be inviting for all students around campus. The last couple slides from the presenter were spoken very quiet which made it hard to hear but they got through it with getting their point across.
The sentences that they used flowed well with their pictures. The used the Pecha Kucha formated quite well, better than most groups. The visual pictures they used fit well with what they were saying. They seemed to connect with the audience by showing pictures of things at the library that us students are familiar with.
They didn't show show quotes but they did talk about them which helped. Statistics were used well also. The overall power point slides' text, pictures, and quality looked good and easy to see. Job well done.
This group researched why students go to the library. The statement seemed broad at first but began narrowing down towards the end of the presentation. At the beginning, the words were not matching up with the slides but all information was given. This group also received different information from their surveys than the other library groups, but this was a good thing since their thesis fit all points.
This group did a very nice job. Their thesis was why people went to Bracken Library. They used statistics, observations, and interviews to make their argument through the presentation. They did a nice job with the public speaking and followed the format. They also did a nice job following the slides with wording. Very good job.
This group talked about why people use bracken library. They had hands down the most information from what I saw. Their statistics about 4,800 students use the library daily and how their are 460 PCs and only 20 Macs or so. Since their were many presentations about the library it was not really appealing when they all said the same thing about how their is a lounge and cafes but besides all that I thought their thesis was really clear and it makes me want to be apart of the statistics in the library.
Their thesis was why do all students use the library. I did like that they had a very good introduction. A good use of the interviews, pulling quotes from them and opinions. Stated that the environment was laid back and not as strict as it used to be. People could now get food delivered, which I have done. The power point used statistics and facts very well to their advantage. They spoke loud and clear along with most groups. I would have liked to seen more eye contact, but that is something every group has in common. Informative about the state of the library and had some facts that I did know about it.
The group showed the reasons why students use the library. They talked about ways the staff at the library tries to increase patrons. The group told all the benefits Bracken offers. There were a lot of statistics. The pictures matched what the person was talking about.
This group interviewed both librarians and students; however, only the students were willing to sign the consent form while the librarian wanted to remain anonymous. A lot of students go to Bracken Library for the food according to them. This group knew very well the technology and how the library works. They knew the background and history of Bracken. They knew that people need reservations to get a room at Bracken. According to their presentation, 4,100 people go through the library daily.
This group also informed us about Bookmark Cafe. They included the cafe workers in their interview. A different student they interviewed, who is an architect major, looks for architecture items in Bracken. Their survey sows that most people go there to study. It also shows that other's also use the computers and technology the most. This presentation was easy to follow, and I felt they covered everything effectively.
They had a great presentation that talked about all that Bracken library has to offer the students and faculty of Ball State. They really didn't stay with the slides and talk the whole time but the information that they did give was very nice to know. They talked about the many different aspects of the library and how they have conference rooms, private rooms, cafe, and lounge areas. They also talked about the architecture of the building and how it was laid out so that they could maximize the floor space.
